Air Quality Monitoring

Sanctuary Farms is committed to environmental justice and community well-being. In response to air pollution from nearby industrial facilities, including the Stellantis plant, we have installed a solar-powered air monitor on our farm. This initiative is part of a larger effort to track toxic pollutants and empower our community with transparent, real-time air quality data.

Partnering with JustAir and the Ecology Center, we are building a network of Detroit farms monitoring air quality.

Our goal is to collect and share air quality data to raise awareness, advocate for environmental change, and protect public health.

As part of the Wayne County Community Air Quality Project, our monitor tracks various pollutants, including particulate matter, ozone, and sulfur dioxide. The data will soon be publicly accessible, allowing residents to stay informed and take proactive steps to safeguard their health.

This project not only highlights the environmental challenges facing our community but also underscores the power of grassroots action. By combining urban farming with air quality monitoring, Sanctuary Farms is working to create a healthier, more equitable future for Detroit.

Air Quality Index (AQI)

  • The Air Quality Index, or AQI, is a color-coded way for residents to see real-time air quality levels in their area. The higher the AQI, the worse the air quality is and the more cause for concern. AQI updates allow residents to make informed decisions about their days.

  • How to Sign up for Air Quality Alerts: You can sign up for alerts through justair.app system. This subscriber system allows you to choose the area you would like to get alerts for. The system will send the alert directly to your email or send you a text message.
